Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Our SENDCO is Mrs Laura Saw

St George's Prep is a very inclusive school. There are no entrance exams - please see our admissions policy. This is why we ask all prospective pupils to spend a day or two with us before we offer a place. Not only does our school have be the right fit for your child, we also have to ensure that your child will be suited to our environments. and s/he will make progress using our teaching methods..

Parents of children with identified SEND should discuss whether the school has the facilities and expertise to accommodate their child's needs. As our school is Grade II listed, we are able to make reasonable accommodations to the building for children with disabilities, but unfortunately, we are unable to provide some facilities due to the historical listing..

As our classes are small (fewer than 15 pupils in each class) there is an excellent pupil:adult ratio, meaning more time for each student. If, however,  teachers feel that a pupil is experiencing difficulties in their work and not achieving their full potential, they will notify the SENCO. and follow our SEND procedure. You can read more about this in our SEND policy. We have additional staff who are able to work directly with individuals or groups should the need arise.

Despite our best efforts, there are occasions when we have to ask outside agencies to lend their expertise. We are professionally unable to diagnose certain difficulties and need to ask for extra help. This may be in the form of assessing a child, or in offering advice or even in providing therapy. We work closely with many agencies. Some of these provide their services for free and other services (because we are an Independent School) are to charged to parents. We would never contact an outside agency without discussing the matter with parents first and seeking permission.
