Life Beyond St George's

The 11+ Process

Leaving the family environment of St George's can seem very daunting, but we are on hand to guide parents through the choices available post year 6. Once a family leaves our school, we like to stay in touch and are happy to offer further advice should the need arise. Some of our children remain in the Independent sector; we are able to recommend a number of options suitable for your child and guide you through the process.

Due to Lincolnshire's fantastic Grammar schools, many parents opt to send their child to a Local Authority secondary school. To gain a place at the Grammar Schools, children must be registered for and take the 11+ exams in early September of year 6 each year.

The 11+ exams consists of two tests taken a week apart in the familiar environment of St George's. The first paper is a verbal reasoning exam and the second exam tests non-verbal reasoning skills.

11+ Results and Senior School Destinations

We have an excellent track record of success in the 11+ exams - this year (September 2023) 100% of all 15 year 6 pupils reached the pass mark, meaning that pupils can attend their local Grammar School. However, the vast majority of our pupils received a 'Lincolnshire pass,' which means that they can choose to attend any Grammar School in Lincolnshire.

In 2022, 10 pupils sat the 11+ exams, with 9 children passing. One child received a scholarship to The Peterborough School, another child took up a place at The Minster School and the remaining children gained places at Grammar Schools in Spalding, Boston and Horncastle.

The data for this cohort which left SGPS in July 2023 can be found below:

Reading - 64% pupils working at greater depth (beyond the national expected level for y6 pupils).

Writing - 36% pupils working at greater depth (beyond the national expected level for y6 pupils).

Grammar - 36% pupils working at greater depth (beyond the national expected level for y6 pupils).

Maths - 36% pupils working at greater depth (beyond the national expected level for y6 pupils).

In 2021, 12 pupils sat the 11+ exams. Ten of these children gained a Lincolnshire pass - the highest level of pass, meaning that they can choose to attend any Grammar School in Lincolnshire, not just the Grammar School in their catchment area!

Our 2020 results were amazing - 100% (9 out of 9) pupils passed the 11+ exams!
