We very much believe in the old saying: 'healthy body, healthy mind.'
At St George's we are proud to provide our own freshly prepared hot lunches. Our cook, Mrs Bray sources her meat and vegetables from our local butcher, Carl Dunham on London road. By doing this we can enure we know exactly what ingredients are used and needs catered for on a daily basis. Our kitchen has also been awarded a 5 star hygiene rating by the local council.
This is what Oftsed (Sept 2012) had to say about mealtimes:
This is very evident at lunch times which are a civilised and calm time with pupils demonstrating their social competence as they converse about their day whilst tucking into tasty and well prepared meals. Parents volunteered to inspectors that table manners at home have improved. Pupils advocate healthy eating and one told the inspector over lunch that it was important to drink lots of water because ‘it keeps you hydrated’.
Children and staff from Little Dragons and St George's eat in our dining hall. Babies eat in their own room. All children are encouraged to develop table manners and are expected to use a knife and fork. Older children are assigned to each table to generally assist with the younger children. Pre-school children wear overalls to protect their uniform whilst eating and all children use a wet wipe to ensure that parents cannot guess what was for lunch by examining their faces at home time!
Fussy eaters aren't a problem. We often are asked about this subject. Most children with encouragement will eat whatever their friends are eating. For the hearty eaters, there is always the option of seconds!
Most religious and dietary requirements can be catered for - please ask for details.
