Admissions Policy and Process
The Admissions Process
If you are considering St George's for your child, we recommend the following process:
1. Contact the school to make an appointment. Mrs Sarah or Mr Mark Whelan will show you around during a normal school day and you can ask as many questions as you like.
2. If you are happy with what you see and would like to register your child, complete a registration form for each child and return this to school. Please note - this does not guarantee a place, but we will process your registration, then:
3. We will arrange a taster day for Pre-Prep and Prep children.
4. If we feel that your child will benefit from our school, we will discuss the availability of a place with you.
What happens during the assessment?
Staff (including the Headteacher) will observe, play with and talk to your child during the session to judge his/her readiness to begin nursery.
For Pre-Prep and Prep children, teachers will ask potential pupils to carry out simple assessment tasks – we are not looking for an academic genius – just a child who will benefit from the St George’s approach!
What happens next?
If it is felt that St George’s is the right school for your child, we will agree a start date with you – this would usually be at the start of a term but we may accommodate a child mid-term if it is felt s/he would settle quickly. At this stage we will ask for a deposit to secure your place. This is deducted from your final invoice when your child leaves St George’s, (providing there are no fees outstanding). If your child does not begin on the start date, without good reason, we reserve the right to offer the place to a child on the waiting list, with the deposit forfeited.
Once you have secured your child's place, we will ask you to complete a series of forms giving permission for various activities and emergency contact/health details for your child.
We may sometimes ask for a report from your child’s current school, but would always seek your permission first.
Before your child/ren begins, you will need to buy the correct uniform. You will be given all the necessary details.
What else do you need to know?
Please note, preference is given to a child with siblings in school and in the case of nursery places, a child requiring a full time place will take priority over a part time place. However we will do whatever we can to try to meet each family’s requirements.
Parents are welcome to increase their child’s nursery attendance at any time, provided that space is available on the day/s required. To decrease attendance, a full term’s notice is required or fees will be due in lieu of notice.
Children in nursery are guaranteed a place to continue through the school. Younger siblings are also guaranteed a place, but we request that you register them in plenty of time before your desired start date.
Occasionally it might be felt that a child's needs are better served at a school with specialist facilities. In this case, we would begin a dialogue with parents whilst a child is in pre-school so that arrangements can be made for a supported transition.
PLEASE NOTE: Full facts must be disclosed at your time of application. As stated elsewhere, we are not necessarily looking for a child with academic talent, but we must ensure that our methods and approach will suit your child. Therefore if your child has a disability or a special educational need, please be honest with us. We will not turn down an application on the basis of this, but must ensure that our school has the necessary facilities and expertise to educate your child. Facts which are not disclosed at the time of application but come to light later may result in the place being withdrawn. Specialist tuition is available in some circumstances but is chargeable.
We have a policy which outlines this procedure in more detail. Click here for Admissions policy
