About Us

St George’s Preparatory School is a very special place where girls and boys work, play and learn in a close, busy and caring community. Whilst staff are aware of their responsibilities to prepare children for their future lives as well mannered and well educated citizens, there is certainly no rush to encourage our children to grow up too quickly. We want our children to remember their childhood with fondness. Ofsted inspected our school in September 2012 and had this to say:

Pupils clearly take delight in every moment at school and make excellent progress because of the outstanding teaching and through assessment. Provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding, as is behaviour. Pupils become confident, articulate, well-rounded young people while they are at the school.

Our motto: ‘believe, achieve, succeed’ is evident in all we do – committed staff, motivated pupils and supportive parents all playing their part in attaining the very highest goals in whatever we do.

Believe - We have extremely high expectations and make no apology for this! With the trusting relationship between adult and child, pupils strive to achieve the very highest standards. One glance at the walls of our schools or the photos of activities will demonstrate this.

Achieve - By this, we mean that achievements go beyond full marks in a weekly spelling test! A child with low self confidence or little common sense may be able to gain full marks in a rote learning test, but we don't see this (commendable as it is) as learning for life. If a child feels good about himself, he knows that even if he fails, he will be supported and learn from the experience. A child who has high levels of self confidence, resilience and a 'can do' attitude will tackle the most testing activity with positivity and will often far exceed expectations. Our role is to ensure that our children know how to learn, not what to learn.

Success - Don't take our word for it - ask our parents or take a look at our Ofsted report. We know what we are doing works and are very proud of our boys and girls.

Our school celebrates each child for being a unique individual. We expect respect, dedication and hard work from every pupil, then search for and enhance each child’s talents wherever they lie, working relentlessly to bring out the very best in everyone.
